Driving just a few minutes west of Summerlin on Charleston Blvd. brings you to the Red Rock National Conservation Area, popular for sightseeing, camping, rock climbing and hiking. The area offers a wonderful alternative to the glitter and glitz of the Las Vegas strip. After locals have taken their house guests to Hoover Dam, a trip to Red Rock helps convince everyone that there is truly "life beyond the neon". There is a modest entry fee but purchase the yearly passport as you will probably be returning numerous times throught the year. Be sure to stop at the visitor's center.
